I began using the very first Apple Macintosh computer in 1984 in a tiny unfrequented closet at Northern Michigan University. I helped publish some of the most awkward, funny, and primitive websites, back when the internet was referred to as cyberspace. Since, I have lived and traveled over most the the USA, S Africa, Spain, Germany, Thailand and my favorite Portugal. My early beginnings in central Michigan stressed in me a profound, principled midwest work ethic. I began serious study while at University of Cincinnati in the ceramic sculpture department. Upon graduating, I began building my own successful illustration business for 8 years, then entered academia and taught for four years as an Assistant Professor.
OVER 30 YEARS OF MAKING AND BREAKING
After leaving the midwest for the west coast in 2006 I have thrived within the Portland creative set. From 2007-11 I worked as a senior digital designer within a very large award winning global ad agency in Portland OR. I have been around the block, more than once and have enjoyed the challenges and learning opportunities from each adventure. To state the obvious, I am more interested in the journey than the destination. I love the design iteration process and exploring potential solutions to any conceptual/visual brief. I am currently working from Portland, OR and loving it, but always willing to re-locate or travel to experience new places and people!
”"By creating things, by thinking up new combinations, we counteract this flow of entropy. We make new structures, new wholeness, so the universe comes out even. A shepherd on a hilltop who looks at a mess of stars and thinks, ‘There’s a hunter, a plow, a fish,’ is making mental connections that have as much real force in the universe as the very fires in those stars themselves.
